Current Needs
Playing with plants is always a good time! We are focused on planting flora that is native and beneficial. Below is a map that highlights some varieties and planting areas to consider planting.
Trees and Shrubs- Our red clay soil requires some amending with some organic matter. New plants should be mulched and fenced off until established.
Garden Beds- Utilizing the gentle hill side slope carve out some ground and frame out some raised beds with some logs or raw natural material. Amend soil with and continue to add organic matter
Cover Crops- Planting cover in cleared areas is important step to keep the soil healthy and prevent erosion issues. Plant native clover variety or winter wheat.
Get out on the trail while building or maintain one. Below is a map that highlights our trail routes for reference.
Clearing- Remove any logs, stumps, brush or overgrowth on trails and clearings for easy walking. Bring logs and brush to the raw materials area for processing
We aim for zero waste or raw materials, an effort to make use of all of the byproducts from our gentle development of the lands. See the below map for designated areas for raw material such as gravel, stone, clay, logs, brush, and compost.
Gathering & Sorting- collecting and organizing these raw materials is a constant effort
Processing- Turning raw materials into something useful to return to the lands. Brush broke down into kindling or sent through a chipper for mulch. Logs split, skinned, or milled to be used as fire wood or building material.Compost turning and adding of organic materials.
Camp areas are cleared areas with a designated purpose to be built out and enjoyed. (Reference the map below) Our aim is to create low impact camp areas inspired by traditional ways and early people of the north.
At this point these camp areas are blank canvases and need the following improvements:
River Camp- Floating dock Install, fire pit built, bench or sitting area, timber frame canvas tent build,
Cook Camp- Timber frame canopy, fire pit buildout, dry food cache, Raw wood counter build
Shop Camp(shipping container)- Workbench/Storage build, Tools and Materials Organization
We love recycling and repurposing all materials and will consider accepting donations of necessary items such as tools, building materials, outdoor art, mulch, gravel, stone, topsoil, buildings, vehicles, etc. Give craigslist a search- Who knows what treasures you could find and donate.?
We are planning to build a 24×32 shop to house more ways to create more and consume less and offer a more accessible experience for our visitors. We would love to connect with skilled builders willing to consider trade or discounted pricing.
